Radoslav Nesterovic is a professional slovenian basketball player who played in the NBA.
He is referred to as Rasho Nesterovic in English. He was born on May 30, 1976 in Ljubljana, Socialist Republic of Slovenira, SFR Yugoslavia and has a dual citizenship in both Greece and Slovenia.
He is listed as 7-foot tall and plays the center position. He is known for his finesse moves and smooth touch in the post. Currently, he is playing in Greece with the Olympiacos. His last team in the NBA was with the Toronto Raptors on 2009-2010 season.
He started playing basketball with KD Slovan youth team then played for the Partizan Belgrade junior club on 1992-1993 season.
Due to the Yugoslav wars, he moved to PAOK Thessaloniki in Greece. He acquired his citizenship in Greece while playing there to avoid the EU restrictions. In Greece, he played with the name Radoslav Makris because of the rules on the Greek law to obtain his Greek citizenship.
He returned to his hometown on 1995-1996 season for the Union Olympija. In the Slovenian domestic league he had a playing time of 30 minutes per game and averaged 17 points and 14 rebounds per game.
He was awarded with the Most Valuable Player at the 1996 FIBA Europe U-20 Championship while playing for the Slovenian youth national team. On 1996-1997 season in Euroleague, he averaged 14 points and 8 rebounds per game and he was a member of the legendary team of Olimpija who reached the Final Four in Rome.
Nesterovic moved to the Italian League and played for Virtus Bologna because of his exposure in the Euroleague.
He was drafted by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first-round draft pick as the 17th overall. He had a good and solid contribution for the Minnesota Timberwolves in his seven years with his rebounding ability and his presence in the paint. He signed with the San Antonio Spurs on 2003-2004 season and played for three seasons with them.
He averaged fairly in points and has a huge contribution in rebounding. He was traded to the Toronto Raptors for Matt Bonner, Eric Williams and second round pick in the 2009 Draft. He averaged 6 points, 5 rebounds per game with the Raptors.
On July 9,2008, he was traded to the Indiana Pacers with Raptors’ T.J. Ford, Maceo Baston and 17th pick in the draft which is Roy Hibbert for Jermain O’neal and 41st pick Nathan Jawai. He returned to Toronto Raptors on July 30, 2009. He was signed by the Olympiacos Piraeus in the 2010-11 season for him to return to Europe for two years.
