England’s most popular sport is football and not basketball, they are more active in FIFA World Cups than in FIBA World Championships in fact they have a few achievements in the leagues in basketball.
Basketball has originated in the United States of America, it has been passed around the world and is now played or watched by numerous people.
Basketball in England has a very long story. It started when it was introduced by YMCA immediately after it was created. Like other countries such as Italy the popularity of basketball in the country boost during the World War I and World War II, wherein American troops were able to show more skills in playing basketball wherein people became more interested in the game.
Basketball in England up to now attracts a smaller crowd compared to the four high profile sports in the country but many lovers of the sport is still trying to work hard for the sport to become widespread in the country and for their country to be known too in the basketball field.
Basketball in England may not dominate the country but it still has an effect to the citizens there, basketball in England and in every country brings the same joy and excitement while the game is ongoing. The elite league in England is the fully-professional Britain Basketball league which features teams in England as well as in Scotland, the semi professional league is the English Basketball League.
There is no promotion or relegation among the two leagues because the basketball league operates a franchise system. The franchise system states that the teams have to “buy into” the league.
