Jordan Crawford is a player in the National Basketball Association who plays for the Washington Wizards.
He was born on October 23, 1988 in Detroit, Michigan. His parents are Joseph and Sylvia Crawford. Standing just six feet, four inches tall and weighing in at 195 pounds, Crawford may be on the smaller side of continuum for basketball players, but he shows promise for his team even in his rookie season.
Early Career
Crawford’s basketball career began in high school at Detroit’s Communication and Media Arts High School. However, as he improved his basketball skill, he felt he needed more direction and challenge, and thus transferred to Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Virginia.
Unfortunately, Crawford suffered an ankle injury which prevented him from playing most of his senior season. Still, this did not hinder him from getting on a college team.
In 2007, Crawford signed a national Letter of Intent to play at Indiana University. During his freshman season, he averaged 9.7 points per game, playing in 30 games and starting in eight. He helped lead the team to a regular season record of 25 wins and 8 losses.
The team also went 14-4 in the Big Ten Tournament, allowing them to advance to the NCAA Tournament.
In 2008, Crawford transferred to Xavier University due to the controversy with coach Kelvin Sampson. Though he was forced to sit out his sophomore season because he was denied immediate eligibility by the NCAA, he was still able to earn Third Team All-American honors for the 2009-2010 season.
He was also voted as the Atlantic 10 Player of the Year and was named to the First Team All-Atlantic 10 due to the fact that he led the league in scoring at 20.5 points per game that year.
The NBA
In 2010, Crawford joined the Atlanta Hawks for the Summer League. He led the team in several statistics. First, he averaged 16.2 points per game, along with 3.4 rebounds per game. He shot a .417 field goal percentage with a whopping .857 from the free throw line.
Then, when it came time for the NBA draft, Crawford was originally selected by the New Jersey Nets as the 27th overall pick. However, the Nets decided to give him to the Hawks along with Tibor Pleiss in exchange for the draft rights to Damien James.
Currently, Crawford is averaging 11.7 points per game for the Hawks, and has made an average of 2.5 rebounds per game.
