Iowa Hawkeyes Women’s Basketball 2010-2011

The University of Iowa Women were ranked 24th in the NCAA Division 1 standings released February 28th.

The Hawkeyes entered the Big Ten Tournament with an overall record of 22-8 and a conference record of 10-6. The University of Iowa made it to the Big Ten quarterfinals with an unfortunate loss to Ohio State.

The Hawkeyes Season

The Hawkeyes put up a good fight this season with a slight set back in the Big Ten quarterfinals. Low scoring and shooting contributed to the loss.

This is the fourth-straight season the Hawkeyes entered the Big Ten Tournament as a top-four seed. This game was a repeat of last season, in which Ohio also won.

The regular season was a balance of games. Iowa had the occasional blow out but for the most part games stayed within a 10-15 point range. The next step for the Hawkeyes is to await the NCAA Tournament seeding announcement to find out their next opponent. Lisa Bluder leads the Hawkeyes, but depends on Kachine Alexander and Jaime Printy to take care of business on the court.

About The Team

Head Coach Lisa Bluder is in her 11th season at Iowa. With Lisa at the helm, the Hawkeyes have had two WNIT appearances, and seven NCAA appearances, including NCAA Tournament berths in the last three seasons.

Senior Kachine Alexander was named to the All-Big Ten First Team and Big Ten All-Defensive Team. Her First Team nod was her second in her career and made her the eighth in school history to achieve this. She averaged 9.4 rebounds per game, the most for any guard in the NCAA Division 1 women’s basketball.

She recorded over 1,000 career points, 800 career rebounds, and 300 career assists. Sophomore Jaime Printy also earned honors by being selected to the All-Big Ten Second Team.
