Virgin Islands Basketball

The Virgin Islands of the United States or US Virgin Islands are cluster or group of islands in the Carribean.
It’s capital city is Charlotte Amalie and has a small population of 108,000. It is consist of the main islands of Saint Croix, Saint John, Saint Thomas, the smaller Water Islands and many other islands around it.

Due to the Americanization in the US Virgin Islands, the American sports such as baseball, basketball and football became famous.

The Americanization of the sports can be mostly witnessed in the British Virgin Islands also though being dependent territories, the US Virgin Islands and British Virgin Islands has their own separate and independent national basketball team which participates in some regional and international athletic competitions.

United States Virgin Islands National Basketball Team

The United States Virgin Islands National basketball team is the official basketball team that represents the US Virgin Islands in international tournaments. Their national federation is Virgin Islands Basketball Federation. They are ranked number 39th in the FIBA World Ranking.

They joined FIBA in the year 1964 but has not yet appeared in the FIBA World Championships and the Summer Olympic Games. In FIBA Americas Championship, they have participate four times but has not yet won any medals.

They also participate in Pan American Games and Central American Championship. They have a good standing in the Central American Championship, finishing 2nd place in the years 2006 and 2008. The years before that, they have placed in 4th, 5th or 6th place.

There are two active NBA players that are currently playing in the league, they are Raja Bell and Tim Duncan. Raja Bell currently playing with the Utah Jazz and Tim Duncan for the San Antonio Spurs.
