On November 29, 1985, Chris and Sandra Brown welcomed their son, Shannon into the world. Little did they know that their son would be joining the elite ranks of the professional basketball in the National Basketball Association.
Currently, he plays for the Los Angeles Lakers, but his career has a fairly long history.
In College
Shannon Brown’s basketball career really began to take off in college. He played three seasons for Michigan State University, where he studied sociology.
While there, he scored a total of 1,183 points and racked up 188 assists, 124 steals and 329 rebounds. As a freshman, he was named to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team, and tied for fifth most steals among all Michigan State freshmen.
During his sophomore year, Brown the Big Ten league coaches voted him an Honorable Mention for the All-Big Ten team. Further, he was selected as the Most Outstanding Player of the Austin Regional. He helped led his team to the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament.
In his junior year, he scored was named to the All-Big Ten Second team by the media, and the league’s coaches elected him to the Big Ten All-Defensive Team. It was that year that he scored his 1000th career point.
Clearly, Brown simply built on a very solid foundation to become the player that he is today.
The National Basketball Association
In 2006, Brown was drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the second round of the NBA draft, making him the 25th pick overall. Two years later, on February 21, 2008 he was traded to the Chicago Bulls with Cedric Simmons, Drew Gooden and Larry Hughes in exchange for Joe Smith and Ben Wallace.
In his rookie season for the Cavaliers, Brown played in 23 games, garnering an average of 3.2 points per game. Also, he twice scored in the double figures. In the 2007-08, Brown’s play improved slightly, as he averaged 7 points per game and 1.2 rebounds per game. He played just 15 games for Cleveland before being traded to Chicago.
In the 2009-10 season, Brown posted a career best of 8.1 points per game and scored at least 10 points in a game 27 times, and over 20 points three times. During All-Star Weekend he participated in the Sprite Slam Dunk Contest.
Also, it was during this season that Brown scored his 1000th NBA point.
Brown has a lot of room for improvement with regards to his basketball performance; however he shows a lot of promise for the Lakers.
