Edward Adam “Ed” Davis born on June 5, 1989 in Washington, D.C., is a professional basketball player.
Who is currently playing for the Toronto Raptors of NAB. At Benedictine High School in Richmond, Virginia, he played high school basketball.
Davis father is a former NBA player Terry Davis, who played 10 seasons (1989–2001) in the NBA with the Miami Heat, Dallas Mavericks, Denver Nuggets and Washington Wizards. Davis is considered as a dynamic scorer around the basket due to his smooth play and left-handed shot.
Not only known for his offense, scouts praise his shot blocking and rebounding abilities. In the 2010 NBA Draft he was selected with the 13th overall pick by the Toronto Raptors.
For the first two years of high school, Ed Davis played basketball at Hanover High School (Mechanicsville, Virginia. He was then transfed to Benedictine High School. Where as a senior he led Benedectine to two state championships, and averaging 22 points, 14 rebounds and 7 blocks. In 2008 he was named Mr. Basketball of Virginia, which is given to Virginia’s best high school basketball player. In 2007, he also received recognition as co-player of the year.
During the 2008–2009 season Ed Davis played in every game. With the Tar Heels he averaged 6.7 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 18.8 minutes per game in his first season. Davis also led the team with 65 blocks with an average of 1.7 per game. During the 2009 NCAA Basketball Tournament in North Carolina’s six wins, Davis averaged 8.2 points and 5.5 rebounds.
Davis came off the bench to score 11 points and grab a team-high 8 rebounds, helping the Tar Heels to an 89–72 win in the 2009 NCAA Championship. Davis was also named to the All-Freshman Team in 2009, and was co-recipient of the team’s Most Improved Player award.
Davis announced he would return to North Carolina after his freshman year, in April 2009. He was widely projected to be a potential top 5 pick if he had opted to enter the draft. Davis announced, on April, 2010, that he would forgo his final two seasons of collegiate eligibility and enters the 2010 NBA Draft, and was expected to be a top 10 selection. In the 2010 NBA Draft he was selected by the Toronto Raptors as the 13th pick. On July, 2010, Davis signed with the Raptors.
