A Turkish national born in Jul 4, 1986… Passionate about basket ball right from his childhood, have lot of name and fame in the basketball playing world.
His full name is Omer Faruk Asik. He grew up playing turkey where he was used to play for the Fenerbahce Istanbul. He played most of the 2005-06 seasons for the Kadikoy Belediyesi in the Turkish League’s second division.
The Izmir, Turkey saw him excelling while playing for the Turkish National Team in the U20 European Championships, he ended this on a high note of winning silver medal at an average of 2.0 PPG and 2.6 RPG in seven contests.
He was also been the member of the silver medal winning Turkish national squad during the occasion of FIBA 2010 world championship. He scored at an average of 8.9 PPG, 6.9 RPG, 1.22 BPG, 19.0 MPG and shot playing with .552 from the ground.
Omer Asik started playing basketball by appearing in two games with Fenerbahce where he moved on with two points and two rebounds. The year of 2006-07 saw him playing for Alpella/Fenerbahce where he led the league in rebounding with 11.2 RPG and ranked second in blocking the shots with 2.0 BPG. His average remains at 9.3 PPG while he was successful in setting a season high with 20 points versus Beykozpor.
He was also involved in tie up with his season high 20 points and a career-best 23 rebounds versus Selcuk Uni. It was omer Asik who earned Turkish League All-Star honors and this is what urged Eurobasket.com to name him as All-Turkish League Newcomer of the Year.
The man continued his class and excellence in the year 2007-08 as well. Omer played for Alpella/ Fenerbahce in this season and Started the season with Alpella at an average of 15.0 ppg and 11.3 rpg in 10 games.
Here he succeeded in recording seven double-doubles. Omer also played for Fenerbahce later at an average of 7.8 ppg and 6.8 rpg in 20 games. In the mean time He led the league in blocked shots with 1.90 bpg.
Omer continued to play for the Fenerbahce where he represented it in 18 games and mark 7.9 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 1.00 bpg and shot rate of .649 from the ground. Later he represented the Fenerbahce in year 2009-10 and Played with Fenerbahce Ulker of Istanbul, there he played seven Euro league games at an average of 8.9 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 1.40 bpg and .364 from the line shot while .658 from the field.
Omer Asik appeared in nine Turkish League contests and posted 10.8 ppg, 6.2 rpg, 1.60 bpg. Omer also missed two month play due to left clavicle injury which makes him restless for two months.
Omer Asik was drafted by the Portland Trail Blazers during the second round of the 2008 NBA Draft. But it will be necessary to say here that the draft rights were traded to the Chicago Bulls in exchange for Denver’s 2009 regular second-round pick. The New York’s 2009 regular second round selection and fro the Chicago’s 2010 regular second round selection respectively.
