Al Joel Horford Reynoso is the Dominican basketball player in the NBA that plays for the Atlanta Hawks.
He was born on June 3, 1986 in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. List as 6-foot 10-inches, he is playing the center position for the Hawks.
He is the son of Tito Horford who is a former NBA player. Al Horford went to Grande Ledge High School and he was the star player on the basketball varsity team. He started his college basketball career with the University of Florida with other freshmen Joakim Noah, Taurean Green and Corey Brewer who also became NBA players.
In his first year with the University of Florida, he helped the Florida Gators to win the 2005 SEC Championship. His sophomore season, they reached the Final Four wherein the Gators defeated the George Mason to reach the finals.
They faced off with UCLA and won the championship and Horford scored 14 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. On April 2007,the Gators became the first team to be a back-to-back national champions since 1991. On May that year, it was announced that Noah, Green, Brewerand Horford would be drafted in the NBA and leave the Florida Gators.
In his NBA career, he was selected as the 3rd overall pick in the 2007 NBA Draft by the Atlanta Hawks. He is selected to play for the NBA All-Star Rookie challenge where they lost to the sophomores. He was the rookie of the month on November, February, March and April.
He is ranked first in rebounding and in recording double doubles amoing the rookies. He averaged 10.7 points per game and 9.7 rebounds per game. In his 2nd season as a Hawk, he averaged 11.5 ppg and 9.3 rpg.
In 2009-2010 NBA season, he recorded an improved and career-high average of 14.2 ppg and 9.9 rpg and 55.1% field goal percentage which led him to his first All-Star game appearance in the 2010 All-Star game as a reserve for the East team.
