The Atlanta Dream WNBA Basketball Team is one of the newest to join the WNBA but that doesn’t mean they are starting from scratch when it comes to a fan base.
Atlanta has very successful sports teams ranging from the Atlanta Hawks to the Atlanta Braves to the Atlanta Falcons. With the addition of the Atlanta Dream, fans have another way support their favorite sports teams.
Philips Arena
The Philips Arena is home to sports other than the WNBA. Other professional teams that play here are the Atlanta Hawks (NBA) and the Atlanta Thrashers (NHL). This arena was built in 1999 and is considered to be one of the best dual-sport, multi-purpose facilities in the world.
Music lovers, sports lovers, and attendants of special performances alike can enjoy this venue. The arena can hold almost 2 million fans and puts on about 200 events annually. Pollstar Magazine ranked Philips Arena No. 1 in concert and events venues.
Some top headliners have been Taylor Swift, Elton John, Rolling Stones, Globetrotters, and Disney on Ice. April 2009 proved to be a “green” month for the arena as it became the first NBA or NHL arena in the world to achieve LEED for an existing building.
Fans
Every team states they have the best fans, but the Dream really does. From the first game at home to last game of the season the fans are always cheering for the Dream. There are many ways for fans to show their support or to meet the team and some of those ways are through singing the anthem, requesting appearances or autographs, banners and signs, and fan mail.
The Dream is very appreciative of the fan support because without them they would be no Dream. In appreciation of the fans, the team has setup several different blog sites to get the inside scoop on the players and team.
In addition to this, there are several social networking sites setup to alert fans about the latest games, info, etc, as well as several bio pages about familiar faces at the game. More information about the team mascot and in game host can be found on these bio pages. The Dream also loves giving back to the community and fans by giving their time to volunteer and actually build relationships with people who love to watch them play.
Merchandise
Without word of mouth, promoting of a team can also come through merchandise. Merchandise can be found online or at the door of the game.
There are many different choices of merchandise, but this can be purchased any time online. Some of the choices are hats, t-shirts, mugs, and jerseys.
All of these items can be autographed if requested at a game. All merchandise is going to be in the Dream colors of baby blue, red or white. If there is something not seen on the team website, there are also other sites that have WNBA gear. All merchandise goes to support the team and their expenses.
