The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay were ranked 15th in the NCAA Division 1 standings posted February 28.
Green Bay will enter into the Horizon Tournament with an overall record of 29-1 and a perfect conference record of 18-0. They will enter into the Horizon League Tournament quarterfinals as the No. 1 seed on March 9.
The Phoenix Season
The Phoenix has had a perfect conference season this year with a record of 18-0. This is the second time in three years this feat has been accomplished. The victory over Detroit gave them this perfect season honor. During this game there were five ties and 10 lead changes until The Phoenix overpowered Detroit.
Most games this season were won by 10 or more points, however, there were a few close games in which Green Bay was still victorious. This shows they know how to close a game, but if it should be close they don’t crack under pressure.
This will take them far as they enter tournament play. Matt Bollant leads Green Bay as the head coach, but on the court he looks to seniors Celeste Hoewisch and Kayla Tetschlag to take control.
About The Team
Matt Bollant leads the Phoenix in his fourth year of coaching Green Bay. In three seasons he has gathered a conference record of 50-4 and an overall record of 83-15, while ushering Green Bay to two NCAA tournaments and one WNIT. Last season Green Bay became the youngest team to make it to the NCAA tournament and earned the first ever Horizon League at-large bid.
They have received the 33rd consecutive winning season and 11th straight 20-win season. Bollant has been named the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association Division 1 Coach of the Year for three straight years.
Seniors Celeste Hoewisch and Kayla Tetschlag shared Horizon League honors and were named Co-Player of the Year. Hoewisch was also named Co-Defensive Player of the Year. Both athletes are the sixth and seventh players from Green Bay to be given this award.
This is also the second time in three years there have been Co-Players of the Year. Hoewisch averaged 14.2 points per game, .485 field goal percentage, .444 three-point field goal percentage, .785 free-throw percentage, and 3.7 assists per game. Tetschlag averaged 15.9 points per game, 8 rebounds per game, .575 field-goal percentage, and an .855 free-throw percentage. Since these players received top votes they were also automatically named to the All-League First Team.
