The Lincoln Memorial University Men’s Basketball Team was ranked 10th in the NCAA Division II standings released on March 8th.
The Railsplitters finished the NCAA Tournament with an overall record of 27-3. Lincoln Memorial met Anderson University in the quarterfinals of the Southeast Regional and fell 91-86.
The Railsplitters’ Season
Lincoln Memorial met Anderson University in the quarterfinals of the Southeast Regional and fell in a very close game 91-86. The Railsplitters opened the season with 22-straight wins and suffered two of its three losses this season to Anderson.
Foul trouble plagued the Railsplitters as their leading scorer was held to 12 minutes of play due to fouls. Lincoln Memorial close in the final minute 89-84 but a pair of free throws by Anderson sealed the victory. Anderson shot 80.6% from the free throw line compared to Lincoln Memorial’s 61.3%.
Lincoln Memorial has a lot to be proud of this season with 27 wins and a first-ever South Atlantic Conference title. Head Coach Josh Schertz guides the Railsplitters but depends on Desmond Johnson and D’Mario Curry to be successful.
About The Team
Head Coach Josh Schertz is in his third season at Lincoln Memorial. In that short time, he has guided the Railsplitters to break many school records including the record for best season start with 22-0, most wins in a season with 27, best conference regular season record with 16-2, highest season winning percentage with .926, tied the record for highest conference tournament seed, and the school’s first trip to the NCAA Regional Tournament. Schertz was named this season’s SAC Coach of the Year.
Junior Desmond Johnson was named All-South Atlantic Conference First Team, South Atlantic Conference Player of the Year, SAC All-Tournament Team, and Daktronics All-Southeast Region First Team. Johnson averaged 15.5 points per game and 8.8 rebounds per game.
He was also 63.8% from the field and named SAC Player of the Week twice. Senior D’Mario Curry was named to the South Atlantic Conference First Team for his third consecutive season, Daktronics All-Southeast Region Second Team, and SAC Tournament Most Valuable Player. Curry has started in 16 of 25 games and averaged 17.6 points per game, 8.5 rebounds per game, and leads the team with 45 blocks. He was also named SAC Player of the Week twice.

Lincoln Memorial offers a liberal arts education and has over 12 extended sites to accommodate students in surrounding areas. There are over 30 academic majors ranging from accounting to wildlife and fisheries management.
