The DePaul Blue Demons were ranked 12th in the NCAA Division 1 standings posted February 28.
The Blue Demons will be entering the Big East Championship with an overall record of 26-5 and a conference record of 13-3. They will be meeting St. John’s in the quarterfinal game on March 6 at the XL Center.
DePaul’s Season
The Blue Demons will be entering the Big East Conference Championship game as the No. 2 seed against St. John’s. They have been very successful this season as the No.2 seed is the highest they’ve ever received since joining the league. This is their sixth Big East Championship appearance.
DePaul has won 7 of the last 10 games, the three losses coming from road games. Most of the games have been within a 10-15 point margin whether won or loss, with the exception of a few blow out games in which DePaul won. Doug Bruno leads the Blue Demons, but he looks to Keisha Hampton and Sam Quigley to take charge of the game.
About The Team
Head Coach Doug Bruno has been with the Blue Devils for 25 seasons. He is known throughout the country as a leader of women’s basketball and sports and was an assistant coach for the USA Women’s National Team. In honor of Bruno’s commitment and dedication, DePaul’s McGrath Arena will be renamed the Doug Bruno Court. He will be one of five women’s basketball coaches and three in Division 1 to have a court or arena named in their honor.
Senior Sam Quigley and junior Keisha Hampton have taken control of this team. Quigley was named to the All-Big East Second Team, an honor she won last season as well.
She is DePaul’s 24th 1,000-point scorer and has had five or more assists in 14 games this season. Quigley is a two-time team captain and leads the team in assists and 3-point field goals. In addition to this she also won the conference’s Sportsmanship Award. Hampton becomes the third DePaul player to earn All-Big East First Team since they joined the league.
She is averaging 14.9 points per game and 1.9 3-pointers per game. Hampton has scored double figures in 26 of 31 games and has led the team in scoring in 14 games. She was also named to the Big East Conference Weekly Honor Roll.
